what are my chances? this is my second time applying!

Have u done any community service? Research?
If adcom asks u, why do they have to choose you, what would u say?
Every sch is different. Some sch are more stats forgiving than others. You probably have to wait awhile, but u still have a chance. Just have to continue to work harder to fill in those gap.

Just curious, how come u didnt apply to UCSF?

UNLV, temple and arizona rejected you, when did you take the 2nd DAT. Did they make the decision before you gave them the 2nd DAT.

If you don't mind me asking, were there an extruciating circumstances, as to why you did so poorly in your undergrad years.

Did you explain this to adcoms?

I can only think of one thing as to the reason, you got rejected as they see you have pontential, but you lack a serious academic maturity sense. You slack off in school, but you studied for your DAT and it showed. Although you your post bac work is excellent, and you should be congratulated. ITs a daunting task to bring your GPA up from the gutters, and you have done a great job. Well done

I would suspect that you should hear from NYU and BU sometime. What is your instate school, are they california schools.

some schools have minimum gpa requirements. I have a feeling ur app never made it to the adcoms at some schools. call the schools. Its cool when you show up for an interview and they already know ur name and not just your aadsas number

ecdoesit,

yeah i have community service and research from both UCD and CSU. i know every school is different. this is my second time applying to these schools and i feel i've improved significantly although my gpa doesnt show that. if adcoms ask i would say i know i fuc*ked up and i wasnt sure i wanted to be a dentists til later into my 2nd year at UCD. but now i want it that much more because i know i am better prepared academically for the rigorous schedule of dental school. you said to fill those gaps, what do you mean?
i didnt apply to UCSF b/c UCLA is my #1 and UOP is #2. i know UCLA's avg gpa is like 3.5. i just think UCSF is over-rated. also it LA man. i have some friends thats already there.
do you know any third year students? joe v. went to UCD?
how about sam that also went to UCD, i think he's a 2nd year?

where did you go to undergrad?

thanks for the reply!

hockeydent,

i took my 2nd dat in july. the schools have my new scores. i was pretty shocked to get rejected from those school this early. i thought i would at least get an interview from 1 of those 3. no there wasnt anything that happened in undergrad. i just ****ed up and didnt take anything serious til i discovered dentistry late in my sophomore year. i explained this with a supplemental letter to each school and i also made a plot chart that showed my gpa improving over my 4 years of undergrad and 1 year of post bac. but i guess that didnt help with unlv, temple and arizona. i've talked to all the schools and they pretty much said its impossible to bring up the gpa by doing post bac and they want me to look into a masters degree, i'm not sure i want to go another 2 years.
do you really think i have a shot at NYU or BU? my instate is UCLA, UOP, USC. 1, 2, 3 in that order. UCLA is a long shot i know but its LA and its awesome down there. i appreciate your reply, thanks

drusier,

i think that what arizona did to my app. i dont think i made the minimun gpa and they tossed it. i have been calling schools and all i get is we'll contact you or check infosource. what else can i do? i'm getting more and more pissed off as i continue to wait b/c i sent my app in in june and my aadsas # is 2**, but i see people like in the 1000's or 2000's getting interviews or scheduling interviews so i dont know what to do. what do you think or suggest?

Hey I'm no expert in this matter, but I have heard from a few admissions offices that writing letters of intent can't hurt in your circumstances. I think you make some very valid arguements that suggest you are capable of handling the work load of dental school.

You need to contact the schools, I suggest contacting your recruiter of the school or the dean of student affairs of each dental school.

Tell them your situation, show your eagerness to attend there school, making multiple visits. Ask them what you can do, you proved that you can handle the DAT. Stress the positives and keep the negatives on the low, your GPA is low.

Of all the states to reside in, I would think that California would be the toughest. Nice thing about California, no matter what school you attend, your gonna get a great education.

I still think your best chances of getting acceptance is at BU and NYU.

and no offense to the secertaries out there but ask to speak with the dean (find the names from the websites) and discuss it with them. Ask if they have a minimum gpa and write it down. Then express to them your interest in their school and ask if their is anything extra you can do to have your application reviewed by the board. Im assuming you have all you transcripts/LOR turned in. If that doesnt work sleep with the adcoms daughter/get engaged....
