I have been experiencing serious depression for past couple of months because I dont know what I should do for next six months.

I have gotten rejection letters from 4 out of 13 schools I applied to.
I was/am not expecting to get into any dental school for this cycle mainly because of my low GPA.
my DAT score (AA/TS/PAT:19/19/21)
but my GPA is 3.0
I have a good ECs and did a research.

I will be graduating this week so, I will have six months to prepare until the next cycle.

I want to get into postbac programs like one at Creighton and SFSU/UoP linkage program that guarantee an acceptance to the dental school if you do well in the program, but they starts in summer. I want to stay busy and prepare for DAT for next six months by taking some classes. I was thinking about applying for some master/post bacc program starting this spring term, dont want to make a wrong decision not doing programs that guarantee an acceptance.

For next six month,
1.should I wait until the summer to start the program?
2. should I start a master/postbac program starting january?
3. do nothing but study my butt off to rock the DAT
4. volunteer/research/mission/work?

Please help me with making a decision. thank you in advance!

I would spend your time studying for the DAT. Your scores are good but not necessarily competitive when taken in association with your GPA. Rock the test and they cant tell you no!!

IMO your issue is ur gpa, so your top priority should be addressing that issue. If you can find a masters program that u can get into by jan, i would suggest that. hopefully then u will have a 3.5-4 semester to throw on ur app by june!

ur dat is about average for accepted students.

I'm pretty sure UOP linkage is only if you get accepted out of high school into their pre-dental program. Grad school is a no-no.

Other than that- you should focus on your gpa- bring it up to around a 3.2-3.3 and then rock the DATs. Or you can bring it up to a 3.5 and keep the average DAT imo.

You should take upper level science classes and 4.0 them..or do the best you can, this shows you can handle dental school, and ur DAT score is fine I wouldn't re-take it, just work on your gpa. good luck!

Your DAT isn't bad but with the level of competition these days you should consider retaking if you think you can improve. Focus on your weak areas. Take some upper level biology classes and do well in them. I would focus these 6 months entirely on academics and DAT preparation.

1. apply early.
2. either rock the DAT, or bring up the GPA. bringing up a GPA is pretty hard imo (been thru it), rocking the DAT is a bit easier (can move the date, do several practice tests etc).
3. do a dental mission maybe (something to write about on ur PS and talk abt during interviews)... community service seems to be HUGE in admissions. maybe americorps?

man I'm in the same boat. same exact test scores. but a gpa of 2.93..........im graduating in a week and I dont know what to do. I probably wont get in this cycle. But I'm applying to many post-bacc programs and also Podiatry school for the fall, cuz podiatry schools accept the DAT. I dont necessarily wanna do Podiatry, but I will apply to dental school again if I get into Podiatry......My parents live in a metropolitan area, so I'm probably just ganna graduate and find sum bullshyt research job to pass my time. honestly, my biggest worry is that I'll get too bored....but yea taking the DAT again is also on my agenda but I dont know how heavily I want to pursue it becuz I know of a few re-takers who got a lower grade the second time. it is a possibility that should be considered. what if u retake the DATs and you do worse instead????

anyways. Goodluck

I don't follow. Why apply to podiatry if you're not going to do it?

OP, I was in the similar situation as you a few years back. GPA cutoff was at 3.0, DAT was just average with AA19, and I was getting rejections left and right. It also didn't help that my application was delayed due to other reasons (long story).

Your best and most ideal plan B would be to do a one year MA program, preferably a science major to demonstrate your ability to do well in upper level science courses. Your next step is to rock the DAT and score 20+. It sounds like a rough path ahead of you but that's what happens when you fall back on your grades during your undergraduate studies. It's going to require alot of your commitment and dedication, but it will be all worth it in the end.

Whatever you choose, DEFINITELY improve scores on your DAT retake. 🙂
