calculus sucks

you should retake calculus...that's my advice

i would retake calculus if its a prereq to one of the schools your applying to. if you take it over kick ass in it.if u did well on your dats your bound to get in somewhere. dont lose hope!

yeah i did retake it, and i got a B in it--that sgpa is including the retake..

well thats ok about the calculus grade. like i said, if nyu doesn't have it as a prereq your not in bad shape. also, nyu is a school that really focuses on dat scores. i had a friend that was in a similar position as you are and she got in. best of luck!

Judging from their incoming class average DAT score I doubt NYU focuses on the DATs. I don't know where you got that information. They do have a very big class size and most expensive tuition+ living expenses and added to that a few rumors thats been circulating for years which have a combined effect of making it one of the less competitive schools to gain admission to. Some schools NYU being one of them tend to look over a lower than avg. sci gpa if the student has a substantially high DAT score but a 2.56 is really pushing it. How bout taking a couple extra sciences courses and trying to boost it over a 3.0? Wouldn't hurt to raise ur overall gpa either.

im not saying nyu isn't a hard school to get into. and i DID say take a couple of gpa booster classes....i was referring to the calculus class that it wont be weighted that much on one class. and i got my information from my friend that had a similar gpa but did really good on the dats and got in. but everyones situation is different. and no, it doesnt hurt to raise your gpa either. you should always try for a higher gpa, because there IS a competitive pool out there and im not ignoring that fact. to the OP, you have your chances of getting in SOMEWHERE. nyu is an expensive place to live among a factor of things, but some school will take you if your scores are good. just work on your gpa, work on job shadowing, volunteering, etc. to help your chances. the doors are not all closed, you still have a chance.

wafa, thanks--yeah, as for nyu emphasizing dat scores i've actually noticed that recently although their average doesn't show that they definetly did emphasize that for this last application cycle.. anyways thanks =)
