hi everyone
If u get matched in a program which is not much desirable to you, is it possible to change it next year ?
I mean you go to the program for 1 year and then take part in match again to find a better place ?
Suppose u get matched in a community program , and then apply next year again for PGY-1 of a university based program ? Is it possible ?
How do the PD of the older program react when they find out u are leaving ?! any experience about it ?
plz share

You can always decide to leave your current program and reapply for the match - whether you will be successful or not depends on a multitude of factors, like reason for the change, your USMLE scores, letters of recommendation, etc.

Of course you also need to discuss this with your current program director.

It is possible as the NRMP does not require that you complete the program you matched to. Technically, however it can be difficult to do so for many.

Yes, you can reregister for the match to find another position, either in the same or different specialty. You should know that advanced positions (ie, beyond PGY1) are more difficult to obtain and therefore, you must accept that there may only be intern positions available to you (ie, you may have to repeat your intern year).

Again yes, it is possible. The type of program you are at has little bearing on the technicalities of reapplying for the match.

No personal experience but others here have written about it. You most often will have to get a letter of good standing from your current PD and therefore, should be letting him/her know asap that you are considering leaving the program. How they handle the news most likely depends on:

1) whether they are glad to see you go or not
2) how honest you have been with them and your reasons for leaving
3) their own personal attributes...ie, some may want what you feel is best and others only care about filling the call schedule and don't bother if you are miserable

thanks alot for your replication
