In my efforts to learn more about the options available in the field, I was curious to know if anyone knows or have any experience with the field of PMR in the armed services?

With a lot of soldiers coming home from the Middle East, I'm sure the opportunities to put your training to use is very good. What are the steps towards becoming a physiatrist in the military? How is the job different? Is there a lot of research going on, like in amputee and prostheitcs or spine injury?

I know at Walter Reed they have a departement of physical medicine and that the UCLA PMR residency is VA based. Besides that I know not much else.
Do anyone know any physiatrist in the armed srvices who are able to lend any guidance? One name I was able to find was Lt. col. Paul Pasquina, chief of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Walter Reed Hospital.

Thanks.

The Chairman at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Dillingham, was a Major in the U.S. Army, at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where he received two faculty teaching awards from the physical medicine and rehabilitation residents at Walter Reed.

He would be an excellent resource to contact, I suspect.

I spoke to an intern today who is in the army and going into PM&R. He said there are three spots in the country, 2 army and 1 navy.
