If someone is applying to a PsyD program, are they expected to have a POI and specifically indicate that person on their application?
Given POIs primarily are sought based on research interest matches, I think it would be more important for PhD applicants.
What's your view?

I think POIs are stressed more for PhD schools but a number of the PsyD schools I applied to specifically asked what profs I was interested in working with. Regardless, I listed at least one POI for each school I applied to (most had 2 but a few just had 1 if there was no other reasonably good fit).

I think PsyD students typically do some research (though generally not as much as PhD students as PsyDs are geared more towards clinical practice) and a few of my schools had applications for research assistantships. There's my two cents 😛

Pretty much what I was going to say. All of the quality Psy.D. programs out there have research requirements, but they may or may not match you up with specifically faculty that early on. I made sure each program I applied to had people in my area of interest (I had 2 at the time), and that they were available to mentor students.

At Baylor, yes, it's important... At Forrest Institute of Professional Psychology, not so much.
