Hi All

Just wondering if everyone got thier scores in the mail? :scared:

Do take part in the poll and post your scores in the ABA 2006!

I have chosen not to show voters, so you can stay anonymous. I guess that is how it works.

Anyone who has above 350 - 😱 👍 - woohoo!- please specify your score in a post on this thread!!

Thanks! Hope everyone's done really well!

i got my 3 digit number but have no idea how to equate it to the 2 digit number that i received on my in-training scores - any idea?

How does the scoring work on the real exam? I'm a CA3 and have only done in-training exams at this point. A friend who just took it for real said passing was 209 this year. What is the highest one can get? I thought there were only 350 questions...I guess I am just trying to understand how this scoring system works.

Thanks,
PMMD

Well I thought the highest possible was 350 too but I have heard of one or two people who got scores above 350, hence the poll options! No idea how it is scored. Anyone?

Mean 250, Std Dev 50. Passing is 209
My 318 and my buds 327 both equated to 43 on the inservice component. I would think 350 would be the max. the 318 is 91st percentile and the 327 is 94%

how did you figure out the percentiles? i didn,t do as well as rallycobra.... 283.... is this 66%tile?? Because I have gotten 66 0r 67% on every in-service so far. go figure..

holy crap - i will admit that i did very minimal reading during residency and on all my in-service exams, i would gradually go up but lagging far behind even though starting out very high(PGY1 - 20, PGY2 - 22, PGY3 - 24). I scored a 311 after studying pretty hard for 3 mos - so that's a 18 or 19 pt increase?

Your program should be able to give you scaled score/percentile rank info.

A poster above indicated that his scaled score was 43 which is actually 80th percentile according to the materials sent to our program from ABA/ASA.

The average improvement from year to year is about 5 points. Somewhere between 70 and 80% of residents pass upon graduating (first time takers). So you should be around 30th percentile each year for your growth curve if you don't want to be scrambling at the end of residency to pass.

For new residents this corresponds to 20, after your ca-1 year 26, after your ca-2 year 29.

Umm....350 is not the highest possible score. I know two people who scored above 360. 😀

It says that my standardized scaled score is 405. That is sort of wierd though because I thought there were only 350 questions on the test. And I got some keywords, so obviously I missed some questions too.

What does a 405 correlate with in terms of percentile? That's the only way in which I know to correlate the 3-digit scores with our 2-digit ITEs.

Congrats,
PMMD

Wow! 405?!! 😱 I have never heard of anyone scoring that high!!! CONGRATS!! 👍

Do you know your percentile? Your program can tell you since they get the stats. Let us know! And, once again, way to go!!!

Can you share with us what you studied for those hard 3 months? Anything that can give you a 19 point increase is money.

Congrats,

Big Blue - knew it backwards and forwards. Then I did all the Medtext questions since 2001 (about 1500?). However, I got to the test and was still frustrated as there was stuff on there that you just can't study for - as in you can't go look up the right answer afterwards 🙁 I could get it down to 2 or 3 choices but that just hacked me off

In the end I guess it was all worth it as the net result is a passing grade but I think the biggest thing is getting as much experience as you can whilst in residency - and asking questions! If there is stuff you don't know/understand - ASK! Because once you're out and in the real world - you'll feel like a huge idiot asking other partners some basic stuff 🙄

Hey everyone, please vote for your score! You stay anonymous as long as you don't post a reply here on this thread. If you just vote, your identity is not revealed. So feel free to vote! 🙂

And Laurel who got 405!.......did you find out your percentile?! I am still in awe!😱

Thanks! I have Big Blue and have started going through it. I plan to get through it 2-3 times this year and then do the Loushn review text mentioned elsewhere on the forum. I hope that ends up being enough. I am still trying to figure out how the 3-digit score correlates with our 2-digit ITE score, but I guess I won't worry about that now. Just need to memorize Big Blue!

I don't know the percentile, I guess I could write the program I was at, but haven't gotten around to it.

For the person who asked about studying, for the last two or three weeks, I did board questions - lots of them (like thousands) You can order them from ASA website.

I think the Clinical Anesthesiology Board Review book by Chu has the ITE/ABA exams from 1993 with explained answers. I don't have it (yet), but I browsed through it in a bookstore and it looked pretty good. I liked how the reasoning behind the answer selection was given. Seems like good insight into the way somebody who answers questions well would think on an exam like this. 👍
