How many weeks does your school give you "off" to study for Step 1?

Just trying to see how many weeks other students are getting these days. I've heard various ranges from colleagues at other schools; and some claim that their school has been increasing the amount of time over the last few years while others have been decreasing it.

I know it doesn't mean much, because studying does start at various times throughout 2nd year for some of us, but I'm just curious.

We finished classes 2nd week of April, comprehensive year end final last week in April. Third year begins last week in June. So technically we get like 8 weeks, but the two weeks spent prepping for the comprehensive final were really just board prep anyways.

Basically way more time than anyone would need.

wow that sounds awesome. i mean... studying for the comprehensive is studying for the boards. I wish we had that much time 🙁 I found it really difficult to keep up a steady study schedule during the end of our last term.

I am shocked (from the results) that there are some schools (although few so far) giving < 3 weeks! yikes.

Our last Exam was on Friday, 4/30, our rotations start on July 1st. So 2 months? We have a few days here and there where we have to come back (We had a week of review the whole first week of may 9-5 and then we had PALS for 2 days and a mock COMLEX). I'm sitting mine on June 5th, that is, until I chicken out and move them. lol.

Classes end on March 15, Finals on the 30th, and rotations start 4 weeks later. So either 4 or 6 weeks depending on how you look at it. Either way it was not enough. You can also take vacation time to supplement that board review period. You have 8 weeks for you entire second two years, and you can use all of it on Step 1 prep if you want (and several people did).
