So here's the situation. I was walking between classes a couple of weeks ago when I overheard a conversation behind me. I knew right away from an annoyingly high pitched voice that one of them was this fugly ***** that I kind of know, but I've never formally introduced myself. She was discussing her med school apps with her friend and she mentioned that she received an e-mail from Harvard. She said that she was surprised that they asked her to send in an application, even though she had never considered them. She also mentioned that a low-tier MD school in our state is her top choice.

I can be a bit of an a-hole sometimes, but I hesitated from crushing her feelings right then and there. I could have told her that she had a snowball's chance in hell if she submitted a primary in June, but they would simply laugh at her stupidity this late in the game. Should I have done that, or should I have let Harvard do that with impunity (which is what I did)?

Why do you feel like you should've gone and been rude to her as well as gotten your nose into her business? You did the right thing... Mind your own business unless someone asks you for your thoughts

This. Let her make her own decisions unless she specifically asks for your advice.

Agreed, no need to be a needless a-hole. If you wanted to genuinely be helpful then you should approach her in a more respectful manner, no need to "crush" anyone.

You did the right thing, if you are an ******* now, when you get into Medical school, you'll be a mega-super-duper-******* by then, accept with no interaction with people. But who knows, you'll make the perfect gunnner.😎

If she's not talking to you, and you're not particularly good friends with her, don't force your own opinion on her. At the end of the day, if she wants to she can. She's the one who wants to spend the money on herself, so let her do so and find out for herself. Secondly, she may have a relative, friend, etc who works there. That snowball's chance just turned into a real opportunity.

TLDR: let her do what she wants, especially since you have no friendship with her and some apparent animosity.

What kind of question is this? Mind your own business. Are pre meds really this socially inept?

Jesus no idea judgement day was happening errday. Almost as bad as the time when a pre Med thought it was in their power to teach hygiene to someone with acne.

1. 🙄

2. who even goes to class anymore?

3. stop ease dropping on people, jeez! keep walking to that class of yours

4. so what that her state school is her top choice? why would that imply that she has no shot at harvard?

5. she wouldn't have wanted your opinion, trust me. no, you should not have said anything

6. I mis-clicked "yes" because of how tired I am right now and can't undo it. crap.

Oh God. Link please.

Unfortunately this happened in real life for me. Someone had gotten done shadowing a dermatologist and was talking about how they could identify different types of skin cancer and how acne is approached. They used an example of someone talking by saying, "So for your acne it would probably be best to wash at least twice a day and try some blah blah blah." We were stunned but didn't say anything. I probably should have though.

:uhno::uhno::uhno::uhno::uhno::uhno:

Please don't. It's none of your business.

anyway if you are truly going to be a douche you should encourage them to only apply to top 20.

Harvard sends emails requesting that people fill out secondaries? Do they seriously need app. money? I thought Harvard was mad funded...😕

just be glad like the rest of us.....our chances of getting into harvard have increased

The girl might have been URM. Some schools send out letters to people who mark themselves as certain races/ethnicities on AMCAS, talking about that school's diversity and inviting them to apply. I don't think it's necessarily a net for money, but it might draw some URM applicants that are very qualified for Harvard but might not have had Harvard on their radar.

sounds like your really jealous that she got a email from Harvard and you didn't, and therefore you need to make yourself feel better by taking a pi*s on her dreams. Congrats, you are an a-hole but at least your honest.

Do not concern yourself with the affairs of others.

You sir are probably regretting ever making this thread.

Thanks for the input, everyone. Today, I decided to give her my Harvard acceptance letter just to rub it in her face a little. I thought that was a decent compromise. There's one thing that I don't understand about her reaction. Instead of thanking me, she started crying. Why would such a dumb whelp do such a thing? Should I have told her about my stats too (4.0 and a 40 if anyone cares)?

Story is false. Need at least a 44 to get into Harvard. R u URM?

I'm not, but it must have been the suit that did it for me. Here's what I wore to the interview:

Whenever non-SDN prrmeds talk to me about application stuff I play dumb. It's impossible to explain the neurotic stuff us SDNers do to those in the real world.
