LoveBeingHuman:)

I'm making this poll so that people don't lose their mind over not getting an acceptance early on.

October is the start of acceptances for most med schools and acceptances roll out until August for the waitlist.

Schools cannot offer acceptances until Oct 15th for regular MD applicants

True. But acceptances do go out in July and August for the cycle that started the year BEFORE. These are usually (almost always) waitlist pulls.

my comment about Oct 15 was in response to the below

it is for ALL med schools

That's when schools can start sending acceptance but that doesn't mean they actually do. Some schools (like the top ones) roll all of them out in March for example. I'm talking about what the realty is, not what the policy is.

Gonnif was just trying note for future readers/viewers of your thread that for any current AAMC application cycle, October 15th is the earliest any participating institution can make an offer of acceptance to an applicant. Gonnif was not saying that medical schools are required to start accepting applicants then (as you later note with your March example) or that acceptances don't happen in August or September for applicants that participated in the previous cycle. All Gonnif is stating is: for any current AAMC application cycle, October 15th is the earliest any participating institution can make an offer of acceptance to an applicant.

This has relevance to your thread and your desire to quell fear as applicants will now know that no one in the current application cycle is getting admitted before October 15th and that if they see acceptances in August and September, that they are from students who participated in the previous application cycle and not to fret.

In any instance, I think this thread/poll will be helpful to a lot of folks for the reasons that you intended.

Yeah, what he said......

@WGSgrad Thanks for clarifying

Might as well start posting this:

Acceptance Dates and Protocols (Traffic Rules) Post Counter 001

--October 1st: Deadline for Schools to notify Early Decision Program (EDP) applicants
--October 15th: First day for schools can begin to notify regular MD applicants of acceptance. Acceptees may hold as many acceptance as they want until April 30th.
(admissions actions other than acceptance may be notified before October 15th)
(from October 15th thru March 15th, Schools must notify AMCAS of all admissions actions within 5 business days; from March 15th on, they must inform AMCAS in 2 days))
--February 1st : Multiple Acceptance Report is release. Only Schools that have accepted you can see where else you have been offered acceptance. No school can ever see where else you have applied, been rejected, or been waitlisted.
--March 15th: Schools must have offered acceptances at least equal to the expected number of students in its first-year entering class.
--April 1st: National Acceptance Report is released. Any school can now see where you have been accepted. At no time can any school ever see where else you have applied, have been rejected or have been waitlisted
--Prior to April 30th, schools offering acceptance should give you two weeks to decide before requiring refundable deposit of $100 or less by AAMC Traffic Rules.
--April 30th: Acceptees can only hold a single acceptance. Each school or program implement school-specific procedures for accepted applicants who, without adequate explanation, continue to hold one or more places at other schools or programs.
--You may hold as many waitlists as you want and can change without deposit penalty
--After April 30, Schools need schools need to give you 5 days to decide, dropping to 2 days if within 30 days of that school's orientation.
--May 15th: Schools accepting applicants off waitlist must notify any school where applicant has been accepted or deferred on same business day

Yup.

This is helpful. I knew a couple of these dates already but it's helpful to have a concise timeline of the application cycle.
