After a year of productive clinical research, in an unpaid, non-financial aid supported, non Howard Hughes/Doris Duke money flow situation, working more than 40 hours a week (of which i have accumulated over 1000 research hours 200 didactic hours and at least 350 clinical hours of Derm without research) I find myself spending out the anal cavity on loans, and will lovingly have to turn to Sallie Mae Again for the Residency and Relocation Loan.

However, it is taking forever to get said loans, is this going to affect my application if I dont submit until Mid October, aside from the money, my app letters mspe all that stuff is finished.

Izzy 🙁

p.s. thank god for food stamps

not that I advocate running up the balance on credit cards, but have you considered using one as a mean of floating the bill until your loan money comes through???

hahaha
my plan is to
1. get loans
2. wipe out balance on credit card
3. use credit card to pay for apps (miles for travel during interviews if i get any)

I really think 1-2 weeks more is the time frame here, I know 93% of programs dont start downloading apps until November 1st, and my app is totally complete

????

I think you'll be ok if you submit late, though I can understand being nervous about it. I only recently submitted and a lot of programs still haven't downloaded my application.
Sorry you are going through this. It must be really stressful!

Sorry to hear the residency loan is taking forever to come through.

I'm also planning on maxing out that loan... but I haven't even applied for it. Our schools financial aid office said to wait for them to figure out some logistics ... I keep checking in with the financial aid lady every other week and she just tells me to keep waiting. I thought I would be ok because I don't need the money until interviews start.

I was told the turnaround for loan disbursement is 3-4 days. If it's as bad as you're experiencing then I'm really screwed!!! 🙁

I don't think you should worry, Izzy. I've spoken to a few PDs who tell me they don't even look at the apps until the Dean's letters come through in early November. So there's no real advantage to submitting early on... all you have to do is make the deadlines. If you're applying to Penn, their deadline is October 15th - i think that's the earliest.

Good luck with the loans.... applying to derm is so expensive.... I'm doing it for the second time and it really sucks to shell out all this money again. Hopefully it'll be worth it this time!

Good luck Izzy!

THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT GUYS

YOU ALL ARE SO GREAT!!!!!

I pray you all match dermatology and we are all residents together

Izzy
😍

no and hell no

had my cosigner overnight the loan last monday and it got returned to him today because sallie mae didnt check their po box the day it arrived, now I had it send to them direct, so if it gets there by tomorrow or friday, i should get it early next week

at that point i have to shove it into my checking account, then pay my credit card, and use the credit card to apply

hopefully by next thursday i am praying this can all be done

thanks for asking

as if stress of all the hurdles Im gonna have to jump just to get interviews isnt enough
