I know this has been brought up on SDN, but I'm curious to see if anyone here is planning on putting together a portfolio for their interviews?

My ECs are mostly built on my experiences as an artist/graphic designer/photographer, and was wondering if it would be a wise idea to put together some samples - or should i just rely on a word-based interview

any insight is appreciated 🙂

Why not? If the topic comes up in your interview you can say "I actually brought a bit of my portfolio with me" and then pull it out. If they don't touch the topic, then leave it in your bag. I do ceramics/sculpture and am bringing pictures of some of my stuff just in case. I think it will be a good way to show them that it's something I'm passionate about and not some random EC that I thought would be a good add-on for dental school apps. If you produce high-quality, unique work then show it off!

Kind of like taking a picture of your ex for the first date with someone else.

I can't see this being a bad idea, however do not encroach on them and hint or overtly state you have a portfolio. Only display it proudly if they ask about it/ask about your work.

I think it's a great idea. One guy I interviewed with brought a portfolio of a few papers that he managed to publish during undergrad. Of course, that @#@#$ got into Harvard.

Was gonna bring my unicorn collection...
