I am applying this cycle. I have a question about scheduling interviews.

During winter break next year (Dec. 11-Jan.6) I would like to go to Europe to visit family. Obviously I might not get any interviews, but if I do, what are the chances that they will be scheduled for those three weeks?

When you are offered an interview do you have a say in when you can go see them, or do you basically have to go when they tell you?

Has anyone gotten interviews during this time? (the holidays)

Thanks!

I highly doubt you will get interviews during that period of time. Generally speaking, this is because December 1st is the first day on which applicants can be notified of acceptance and they are given until January 15th to decide. Most schools will wait till January 15th to assess the yield before they give out more interviews. I applied very early and all 10 of my interviews were between the months of August and November. I did receive one additional interview in late January, as well, but nothing during the time period you specified.

I had an interview scheduled in that time period for Nova and a littler earlier for Midwestern, so it happens. But for all you know, you'll get accepted to your #1 on 12/1 and won't even need to attend those interviews (save some moolah).
To answer your question it depends on the school, some let you pick the date of the interview and others will assign it. It should be noted that those schools that let you pick the date, generally only have availabilities within a week or 2 of each other so there isn't too much leeway.

I had 9 interviews, and 8 of them were before Dec 1st. If you apply early you probably won't have to worry about it. For most schools, when you're granted an interview you call them and set a date that works for both of you. Also, if a school does just send you a set date (like Nova does), then they give you the ability to call and change the date. They understand you are a human being and have a life as well...

That's why I prefaced my statement with "Generally speaking..."
