Well i'm about 1.5 yrs into my post-bac pursuit. The school I attend just recently became a certificate program. This is where my problem comes from.

In preparation for my application to the post-bacc program I was looking over my transcript and I realized how atrocious my science GPA was. I finished my BS about 6 yrs ago and its about a 1.6. The reason it is so low, is because I became extremely ill during one semester while taking A&P and lab and had to take an Incomplete, but due to time constraints I was unable to retake the class at my undergrad institution, and took it at a CC by my parents over the summer. And because of my missing most of the 1st part of A&P my grade in the 2nd part suffered, but once again I was able to petition for an Incomplete, but took the 2nd part at the CC by my parents. So after 1 yr, these 4 classes at my undergrad became 2 D's and 2 F's. So this threw my GPA down the drain.

I'm not concerned about my making it into the post-bac program, but my concern is application to Med school. After taking Bio 1 and 2, Chem 1 and 2 and physics 1, all with labs, my post-bac GPA is 3.83. And I know thats a good upward trend, but do I have any chance at a DO or even caribbean school?

You have a lot of good practical experience and your post bac GPA is excellent. Kick ass on the MCAT and give it a shot. The worst they can say is "not this year." From my understanding, DO school are much more forgiving and give more weight to the recent grades.

Good luck and stay positive.

Yea they will look over the post bac grades and weigh that more heavily...only because you have been out of undergrad for so long..and that is your most recent performance. I wouldnt sweat it to hard. Study for the MCATs and you have a good shot for MD or DO school. Just keep making connections with advisors and such so that your LORs can be really good! Good Luck!

hey.. dont worry im in almost the same boat as you.. but im thinkin about joining a post bacc program as well.. it turns out that a lot of the ones i looked at have high gpa requirements for admission.. would u mind sharing which post bacc program are u enrolled in??

I'm actually taking classes at Hunter College, in NYC. They just recently were granted permission to become a certificate granting program. But i'm not sure if that will even matter for me. But I guess we'll see.
