I've never gotten a C in any class before. The grades aren't up but if I end up with a C in organic, would I have a shot this coming cycle? I got an A in ochem I but I had trouble this semester. If I get a C, that would put me at 3.54cgpa and 3.50sgpa. Thanks!

Should I try to retake at a CC (my school doesn't allow retake for Cs and higher) or just do better in biochem?

Your GPA's are fine. Not worth retaking IMO.

Different story for each applicant-can you justify a C? Work schedule, heavy course load, volunteering or shadowing? Don't focus on the fact that you got a C, focus on learning from your mistake...interviewers want to know about you and how you react to stress and failure. Gather your composure, don't freak out about your minor flaw (like I did with OrgoI) and put it behind you.

Listen to this guy above-physicians are not emotionally reactive-remain calm and think through your strategy. First, you run the risk of repeating a C-it happens more than you think, especially when taking such a difficult course under different professors. Second, if we are realistic, while you will hope for an A you may earn a B-this will not boost your GPA and will make you look like a jackass when you can't ace it the second time around (...and neither could I).

Thanks for the insight! My problem is, I took a light load this semester (11 credit hours) so I can study for the mcat. I guess I underestimated orgo and it hit me. I suppose it would be better to do better in biochem and hopefully do well on the mcat.

Definitely-and I'm not trying to come off like an ass but do not justify your grade if you receive a poor mcat score (I took it twice-it happens to the best of us). You application and interviews combine to tell a story about you-no excuses! You might have a reasonable explanation for a blemish or two, but like I said-humbling experience/learning experience/etc. Kill the mcat man, good luck!

GPAs are good; therefore, you are fine. A 'C' in Organic II will not kill your chances. This class was a beast!

Absolutely don't do worse in biochemistry, you don't want to end with a downward trend. One C in organic chemistry won't keep you out, but you may be asked about it in an interview.

Yeah it caught me off guard. I've had straight As in chemistry ever since intro to chem. I just don't know what happened

It happens. I have a friend who also had a C I believe in some pre-req. She was so paranoid about it. She got into multiple medical schools two years later.
