Possible Specialties to switch into after Psychiatry Intern Year.

Curious if anyone knows if a Psychiatry intern year would count as a Prelim/Transitional year?

Also, what specialties have people successfully entered as a PGY-2 after doing an intern year of Psych?

NO. Psychiatry does not have a full intern yr so you would have to repeat intern yr if you wanted to switch specialties except for path and preventive medicine/occupational medicine.

To add what splik said, i don’t know if this is typical but I believe I’ve heard of someone getting credit for the 6 months IM/neuro so then being able to do FM/IM in 2.5 yrs off cycle from the normal June/July graduation

Depends on your program but based on most programs you should get 6 months credit for office service. I think Neurology would be a good transition. Or try for FM, IM, Peds.

OP I am curious, any particular reasons for wanting to switch? I can't imagine any other specialty being more cush so not sure why you want to switch lol. (aside from absolutely hating psych)
