500 MCAT ( will be retaking this May)- what score should I try to achieve?

Good amounts of ECs and research, shadowing, etc.

Thought about an SMP/Masters to improve academic profile (specifically, Georgetown SMP).

Add D.O., and you'll be good to go.

If you're only going for MD, an SMP or an MCAT retake will for sure increase your chances. I would say 505+ would put you in a solid spot.

the highest score you can achieve is what you should try to achieve.....that question has always been odd to me

There's no absolute minimum that I know of at my school-- however, I've been told that below the 75th-80th percentile (I believe that's a 507-508 on the new MCAT), it gets very difficult to get an invite, so if you retake I would aim for at least that. That being said, your GPA is also on the lower end and at some schools your new MCAT may be averaged with your old one.

Consider case western as well. They have a one year smp called PRIME. You would be great if you can get that gpa (auto screen) and MCAT up.

As someone else has expressed, you should just aim to get the absolute best score possible on the MCAT. That said, I'd say that you should be trying to get consistently 510+ on practice exams before taking the real deal again. Since it's a retake, scoring significantly higher of course matters much more.

Do that and you'll probably be golden for DO. If you're aiming for MD, some kind of post-bac / SMP may be in order.
