I'm graduating with a PhD soon and considering medical school (see thread: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/phd-considering-md-admissions.1192769/).
I want to start volunteering and shadowing in order to help me come to a more informed decision about preparing for med school applications but have not entirely given up the idea of a career in industry.
Volunteering generally involves a commitment of a few months to a year. I would be in a pickle if I landed a great job in industry that isn't in the area while still committed to volunteering. It would feel awful to selfishly leave a volunteer position for a job.
It feels like I have to commit to the med school route in order to decide if should go the med school route in the first place. Any thoughts? Has anyone here had a similar situation?
