Hey guys, hoping someone can give me some advice. I am currently enrolled in an international vet school. However, I've ran into some personal problems and being this far from home has made me realize that I would prefer a vet school that is closer. Vet school is stressful enough and adding this to it, is making it a lot worse. So now I am debating withdrawing. Transferring seems pretty impossible with the research I've done. I was lucky enough to be accepted to UC Davis but I turned the offer down in order to take on an international education. I am hoping to re-apply to Davis but I'm afraid they will look down upon a mid-year withdraw. Should I try and "stick it out" and pass this year and then withdraw? Or should I withdraw now for my mental state and re-apply? I was also looking into Midwestern since they will actually allow a transfer but still uncertain about them. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hey there Teenuh!

Here's a few things that you might want to consider if you're thinking about withdrawing/reapplying:
1) The debt. Going international (or even OOS) is quite expensive, do you think you would be able to handle another year's worth of tuition on top of what you have now if you reapply? Out of curiosity, is Davis your IS or OOS?
2) Not getting re-accepted. There could be a slim chance that you withdrawal, reapply, and don't get accepted. Will you just apply to Davis? What will you do if you apply 2, 3, 4 times and it's not successful?
3) If you decide to try and transfer to Midwestern, would you be okay with perhaps to repeating a year because the curriculum's may or may not match up?

I'm sorry you're having a hard time, and I hope whatever you decide to do works out for you 🙂.

have you asked davis if they'd except you as a transfer? (extenuating circumstances...ya know) never hurts to ask.

This.

I mean, getting a transfer isn't "easy" but it also isn't "impossible". I think it would do you some good to at least see if the school you are wanting to transfer to accepts transfers and has room in that class for a transfer and has a curriculum that closely matches up to the one at the school you are currently at. Then apply for a transfer... worst case scenario, you don't get the transfer and are back at deciding if you want to withdraw and re-apply. Best case scenario, you do get the transfer and then don't have to spend time re-applying, possibly not getting in and having to start over with vet school.

i know their website says 3rd years only, but it never hurts to ask, and you could even just call them up and see what their thoughts are about withdrawing and reapplying
