This is my first post here, though I've been a lurker for over a year. I'm wondering if those of you with knowledge of the process would be willing to weigh in with regard to my odds of being accepted into a top-tier post-bac program. I'm especially interested in Bryn Mawr, Goucher, Columbia, and Johns Hopkins, and then eventually linking into a medical school directly. Here are my figures:

Undergrad degree: BA in Psychology/Political Science
Undergrad institution: Luther College, Iowa
Undergrad GPA: 3.94
GRE (General): 1380 (85th percentile in 2004)
ACT: 30 (97th percentile in 2001)
Graduate degree, Master's in Political Science
Gradute institution: University of North Dakota
Graduate GPA: 4.00

I've taken no science courses to this point. At the time I apply for post-bac admission, I will have been volunteering in a local hospital for about 6 months, with around 100 hours of service. My big downside is that I'm currently enrolled in a phd program in political science, which I'll have to drop in order to enroll in a post-bac.

Do I have a reasonable chance of being accepted into any of the schools listed above (or similar schools)? Further, will dropping the phd program negatively affect my chances of linking into a medical school after the post-bacc?

Your numbers look good. You may want to try asking this question in the postbac section of the forums though - it's titled "Postbaccalaureate Programs."

I have a friend that did Bryn Mawr and got into a NY M.D. school several years ago, so it can be done. I'm not sure what the prerequisites are to applying to the formal postbac programs but I'd bet you can find more answers in the above part of the forums than here.

Good luck!
