I’m a 40 yo beginning post bac this spring and I would like some feedback about class choices. I am considering both MD and DO.

As an undergrad, I got a C- in Chem I, prompting me to quit the premed thing (redemption story here), so I am going to re-take the Chem I and complete the sequence with Chem II, as required.

Also as an undergrad, I placed out of Bio I (AP credit) and got an A in Bio II. Although I took courses in evolutionary biology and invertebrate zoology (with lab), I doubt that these would fulfill the requirement for a second (upper-level) biology prereq. What Biology course(s) would you suggest I take in post bac? I could re-take Bio I & II for the sake of grades and refreshing my knowledge. Or I could just add an upper-level Biology class (A&P looks interesting, so does Cell Bio). I need to balance preparing for MCAT with improving my GPA.

Also, the writing is on the wall that Biochemistry is increasingly being added as a pre-req; it’s also commonly recommended for the MCAT. Would you advise me to add that to my course load? (Biochem is categorized under chemistry according to the AMCAS Course Classification Guide.)

I did stats in grad school already and have a mediocre undergrad record in calc, and I’ll let those be.

Thanks for your feedback!

I strongly recommend Biochem!
