Hello, I am currently a senior at U of M (the), unfortunatly it has been extremly rough and will be leaving with a G.P.A of around 2.4. I am looking for a postbac program to show that I can do the work however, I keep hearing that my G.P.A is too low. What program would help me? I would like to be back home, Philadelphia, Pa, if possible but I just need any program to open the door. Is there an alternative? Does anyone know about the program at PCOM? Any information would help because the advisors I have talked to thus far know nothing and I am lost and becoming increasingly disparaged. Thanks in advance.😡

Your GPA is too low for formal programs. I've been where you are!!! Your best bet will be to do an informal program and take a lot of upper level classes to get that GPA up. Know that even if you get a 4.0 your GPA will not budge that much because you have so many credits. However its not impossible but it will take great effort! Good Luck!!!

Michigan State & Southern Illinois University would be 2 of the programs I would recommend. Also the University of Pennsylvania has 2 or 3 programs depending on which requirements you've filled. Mischigan State might be preferable for you since you are already there and you can be a science major and have completed your pre-req's

Your probable best bet

1) Classes until you get to around a 2.8

2) MCAT > 33

3) SMP program (do very well)

4) go to medical school.

So it's at least a 2 year process, and requires you to do significantly above the average for med school matriculants on the MCAT.

Other options

1) retake classes and get to over a 3.0, with grade replancement

2) MCAT > 31

3) shadow a DO

4) apply to DO schools

5) go to medical school

Again about 2 years

Final option:

1) take more classes to get your GPA up

2) MCAT around 30

3) apply to the Carribbean

4) Go to medical school

5) Try to be part of the small minority of Caribbean matriculants who actually finish school school and get a degree

Biggest risk (you could end up with hundreds of thousands in debt and no degree) but you could be in school by next fall.
