Post Bac Pre Med 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Snoopybd93, when did you submit your applications? I also am applying to BM, Goucher, and Michigan. Have you heard back from any of these yet?

elleE23, have you heard back from Bryn Mawr yet? I also heard from Goucher, but nothing from BM (even though I submitted at the same time).

I submitted early September (received on the 7th) and heard back 2 weeks later. When did you submit?

Hi Everyone,

Thought I'd introduce myself as I am also hoping to be accepted to a post bac program in 2016. I'm applying to UPenn, Temple, Bryn Mawr, Johns Hopkins, and maybe Goucher and/or Tufts. Just out of curiosity, what types of backgrounds do you all have? I'm active duty Air Force right now, but I was previously a paramedic for several years.

I am not sure about the interview specifics. I wasn't actually able to schedule my interview yet... Still working out the specifics because of scheduling conflicts. Does anyone else know what to expect from Goucher interview?

Thanks 3rcgenerationMD!

One question I have about Goucher is: How do they award their scholarships? Is this based on one's application or on how one performs in the program? I know I am getting way ahead of myself, but I have been researching all of these schools like crazy, and that's something I can't seem to find anywhere.

Denied from Bryn Mawr... Heard about 3 weeks after they received all of my materials 🙁

Sorry to hear that! Any feedback on your application or materials?

I've done a little searching and haven't found many specific questions other than what you mentioned, and maybe some general questions about resumes and high school/college experiences, and what you did since college.

How was your hopkins interview? What sort of difficult questions did they ask?

I recently did the Hopkins Skype interview, which was not easy... Does anyone know what kinds of difficult questions Bryn Mawr and Goucher might ask (other than the usual, "Why do you want to be a physician," etc)? Has anyone posted on this somewhere else? Thanks!

I applied this cycle and interviewed at UVA and Goucher. If anyone has any questions about those interviews just message me

Hey! I saw you posted in the Post Bacc 2016 forum that you interviewed at UVA. When did you submit your application? How soon did you hear after you submitted it? How was the interview? Have you heard back yet? Any information you can provide would be very much appreciated. UVA is my #1 choice and I just submitted my application last week so I'm trying to find out as much as I can about this year's application cycle. Thank you!

  • My application was completed on 9/8/2015 7:10:00 PM. I received an interview via email on September 14th and interview in-person on September 23rd. When I rescinded my application because I had been accepted to my top program, I found out from Susan (the program director) that I was accepted to UVA.

  • The interview consisted of 3 parts. For 45 min- 1 hour, there is a group interview/discussion with other candidates and Dr. Burnett the chemistry teacher/academic director. From that room, candidates are pulled out one at a time for individual 20/30 min interviews with Director Sunsan Salko and Dr. Powers, the medical director. Those who are not interviewing will be with Dr. Burnett, asking questions, talking etc. After all of the interviews wrap up, Ms. Hash (the assistant) takes you all to lunch with current students, followed by a campus tour. Finally, we went to a 2 hour course taught my Dr. Powers about the American health system. The day was very informative and very long! The toughest interview I had was definitely with Dr. Powers. Susan was great as was Dr. Burnett!

I applied to UVA and submitted all my materials Oct. 1, my advisers submitted recs by Oct 8. I heard back for an interview almost immediately, and got my acceptance this past Friday (oct 16).
Are you still early or am I behind? I am looking to apply for the summer/fall term

Thank you SO much! That was extremely helpful!

Did you do a Skype interview at UVA?

Interview at Bryn Mawr. I am a low stats candidate (gpa but decent sat) but I also went to a top 3 school with grade deflation. I don't think I'll get in based in this but nice to see they are considering me...

I submitted John Hopkins and Bryn Mawr at the beginning of October.. Still haven't heard back.. Has anyone else heard??

Time to be worried yet?

Did you apply early action to BM? If not, I think apps submitted after Oct 1 might be on hold while they process all the early action applicants because they guarantee those applicants a decision by Dec. 23. I haven't heard from Bryn Mawr either. Has anyone else who submitted after Oct. 1?

Did anyone on here apply to Tufts' career changer program? Do you know if the December 1st response date is firm? Is there anyone on SDN who has gone through the Tufts post bac program or admission process who might be able to give me a better idea of what to expect?!?!?!

I am coming from a Mechanical Engineering background. I will be applying to Bryn Mawr, Goucher, UVA, Scripps, LMU-LA, and JH.

UPDATE : I will be interviewing with UVa next week (12/15)!

Hey has anyone applied to Wash U? I am really interested in their program. In searching SDN I have only found a handful of opinions. But as a relatively newer program (compared to others) with linkages to Michigan and Case Western I'm thinking it has to be pretty legit/respected right?

I'm applying to Penn, NYU, UVM, UVA, Johns Hopkins, Tufts, Wash U, and MAYBE Columbia.

anyone from california and take some post baccc classes on your own at cal poly pomona?

Anyone interview at Hopkins? I got invited for a preliminary skype interview!

Anyone attending UVa's post bac this summer?

Hey MKB2,

I am attending UVA's program this summer. Like someone else mentioned before, I made my decision during the interview. I got a great feeling talking to the program director and cannot wait to start this summer. My wife and I are doing some exploring of the Charlottesville area this coming week.

Hey,
That's awesome, congrats! I will also be attending UVA in the summer. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hey

Hi everyone! I submitted applications earlier this week. I know I'm applying late in the cycle but it still feels so good to finally be taking steps towards med school. For people who applied to BM/JHU, how long did it take for the online systems to update that they had received all your supporting documents? I sent mine in about a month ago, but I'm of course feeling paranoid and worrying my transcript got lost or something...

Thanks for the advice, kipling! I think I'll give them a call tomorrow morning. Really excited this is finally happening!

Hi all, I am seriously considering applying for a post back premed program. I am a current junior in college. I will be graduating next January, and plan on starting a post-bac program in the summer or fall of 2017. (So I will begin the application cycle in the fall of this year).

Here are my stats:
High School GPA: 4.0
Undergraduate GPA: 3.98, Major: B.A. in Economics (With a focus on math)
SAT scores: Reading 710, Math 720, Writing 750

Clinical Experience:
I am currently shadowing Spanish interpreters in a hospital (getting to see all specialties!) and will for the next 3 months
I will be volunteering at a hospital this summer
I will be volunteering at a hospital this fall semester (while I apply to post back programs)

I know that there is a focus on health care experience that these programs look for. I am wondering what my shots are at getting in to Goucher, BM, GW, UVA, Scripps, Tufts, etc. next fall and what peoples thoughts are on each of the program. Do I have a shot?? If not, what should I do to increase my chances??
