my gpa is not good enough to get into a dental school but i really want to become a dentist.
i heard you can get into a post-bac program and take the same classes as the dental school students and if u do well, u can be admitted.
i guess its like the second chance?
does anybody know about the post-bac progrm?
can somebody tell me about it in details (such as how to apply, how it works, and what schools offer this progrm, etc.)
thank u !!

i know creighton has the program where if you get 3.5 in their post-bac program, and you get over 18 on all the DATs, you are in. I am not sure how to apply but i know the information is on the school's website.

I am doing a post-bac elsewhere but it's a med school but it doesn't guarantee my spot to the d-schoools but it helped me.

I think VCU also has a program.

when are deadlines for post-bach appilcations usually? before or after the regular dental apps?

I believe there is only a hand full of schools that offer a post bac program...at baylor unfortunately you have to be a texas resident and previously not been accepted into dental (baylor specifically) to be considered...but you go to UNT or UTD for a year, take 30hrs. of dental related science coursework, if you maintain a 3.2 and get an 18 or better on the DAT youre in! (if you previously took the DAT and you got an 18 or better you do not have to complete the Kaplan portion of the program nor do you have to take the DAT again)...they usually take 8-16 people every year, and surprisingly it isnt that competitive because they do not offer the stipend anymore so most people have to take out loans or work! So basically its like being in college another year in terms of the money (~$19000)-mostly from living expenses (~$3000 for tuition)...to help cut the cost of living I know that some students live "on campus" in the Nursing Dorms and its like dirt cheap compared to living in an apartment (its decent...considering traffic is terrible when commuting, even if you live a mile away!) And the deadlines are usually early in the spring semester the year after you applied...so if you applied this year 07 and you dont get in...then you would apply for post-bac next year in jan. or feb of 08 and enter into the program in may or june

thanks for responding! I'm applying this cycle and haven't applied yet, I guess was just considering post-bachs because I don't have any dental experience or research and it feels like everyone around me has been shadowing since like high school or has perfect DAT scores. ah! :scared:

That's why I was consideringn seeing if I can get into a post-bach instead of applying straight to dental school this cycle but I guess it's too late to apply to bost-bach adn I will just jump into it and try to do beast on the DAT and apply this cycle. I feel like doing well on the DAT is my only big hope of getting in now...certainly increases the pressure on it now doesn't it? 😳
