Post Bacc AFTER Masters?! Please Help!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Everything besides your gpa is really solid! The schools should notice how hard youre trying to be a competitive applicant. Also, this is your 3rd time applying. I know you are in a stressful position! But i do think you have a shot. I dont think you should do an entire post bacc; unless that's something you really want to complete..
You definitely seem like an interesting applicant! Good luck 🙂

Have you even attempted to apply a year yet? Why would you waste money on a postbacc after you have a masters/solid DAT? They are going to look at the master grade seperate anyways.

I just know that since I took my DAT for the 3rd time it will expire in 3 years and the clock is ticking! I am kind of freaking out a little also seeing all these stats on SDN 😕 also I'm looking at all this money I'm spending as an investment. I just spent so much money applying to 15 schools + secondaries so i don't want to waste a year just applying and being a sitting duck waiting to see what happens if that makes sense!
Don't freak out from SDN stats. It's mainly people bragging (myself included probably haha). From what you've posted, it's clear that you're very determined to be a dentist, and you've invested a lot of time, effort, and money into this. I'm sure schools will take notice. Also, you have a great upward trend, so I'd think you have a shot! Maybe undergrad GPAs like yours and what make up the low end of the GPA spectra for some schools, but coupled with everything else you've done, it's forgivable.
Have you called a couple of the schools you were applying to and asked their opinions on what you should do?

hahah well thats good to hear! I have called a bunch of the schools that i got rejected from last year and a lot of them told me to take my DAT again (which i did 2 months ago 22AA/ 23 TS) I just figured since they were focused on me taking my DAT again they didn't tell me if my GPA needed improvement or not. honestly I probably am freaking out a little even though its early in the game, i just want this so badly and have been working so hard that I don't want to waste another year not doing everything i can to keep improving my application!:xf:
I totally understand. And it's clear you've been improving, and that you're determined if you're continuing to apply! Maybe call the schools again, tell them your awesome new DAT score, and see what they think.

Your overall is not good but your recent gpa and graduate gpa are high 3s, and schools will notice this. Pair that with strong DAT, good ps, good ec, LORs and you will get interviews. After that point, it is all on how you portray yourself

Thank you for replying! Do you think the 16 credits will be enough of a boost throughout the year? I really am good at taking notes and doing well on exams, i just goofed off in undergrad :bang:

I honestly think you have a chance! Just do really well with those 16 credits, so schools can see you're committed and you have learned from your mistakes. 🙂

All about that upward trend, DAT (21+), LOR, volunteering, shadowing, etc for people with low stats. I think you have a shot. I don't think you need a post bac tbh. Most people would actually do a post bac first then masters if their GPA was terrible (I'm talking like 2.5 overall terrible). Good luck friend!

Did you do the thesis at Rutgers or just get the MBS? I'm doing the same program, have one semester left, and am worried that I won't have much left to do to improve if I graduate and then don't get accepted.

thank you for your reply! my overall was a 2.82 in undergrad but my BCP and sGPA from undergrad is lower than that but with the masters GPA the BCP and sGPA got boosted up a bit. I'm hoping you're right and i have a shot!!! i think based on everyones advice, including yours, i won't be doing a post bacc just repeating physics and taking A&P since I'm applying to some schools where its a requirement. good luck to you as well! 🙂

Your masters GPA is what will be looked at the most and I strongly believe you made a very remarkable turnaround!
It's so comforting to see my fellow predents around the nation who overcame their low gpa by hard work and determination. What an inspiration.
Thank you, keep fighting, and don't give up! 🙂

thank you for your kind words!! Its nice to see how compassionate the future dentists of america are! 😍

If I were in your situation, I would take whatever classes I needed in the fall for dental pre-reqs (A & P and Physics), see how the application cycle goes and then plan from there what to do. At this point, I wouldn't pay for a Masters since you have shown a strong upward trend in your GPA and DAT as well as improved your EC's for this cycle.

Thank you for the advice! I actually completed a masters at rutgers with a 3.56. I'm trying to figure out if I should do a post bac (undergrad classes) but I've decided to just do a&p and retake physics!

oops, yes, I meant pay for the full post bac...just take the classes you need for now and see how it goes in Dec.
