I'm looking to apply for a post-bac program in attempt to boost my GPA a little... my undergrad GPA was a 3.45... do I have to take up a past-bac program at my undergrad university or can I take it at a diff school?

Undergrad GPA is fixed right?

1. Did you take any science courses at you UG college?

2. Will you be/need to repeat courses?

3. Im in the same situation, and was adivsed not to take classes/postbacc at my UG college - CUNY HUNTER (linkage avail) fyi by Ms. Woodhill (well recognized).😎

Post bacc classes accrue to your UG GPA, so no, it is not "fixed."

Graduate level grades are separate.

Thanks postbacker... I know it's a stupid question but I never looked into it.

Dabyachunv, it's funny because I'm from NY also, and I'm actually looking to apply to Hunter for a post-bacc program. I was a chem major at my UG school so I took a lot of science courses... just didn't do as well as I expected (especially those easy 200 lvl bio classes w/ lab, ), and resulted in a low GPA. I don't need to re-take any chem courses, however, I do plan and need to re-take some basic level bio courses.

If your considering hunter, beware of Dr.Alaie, j/k. I would talk to other post-bacc premed students from hunter. From what I've seen getting into Orgo is difficult, b/c prefrence is given to UG students, but since youve taken them then no worries. I would email ms woodhill, shes really helpful. As far as other bio's go, you have to be a bio major to take them, so as you can guess, the classes after intro Bio100 and 102, are really small -cell bio and on, and typically have waitlists. But good luck.😀

Does Hunter have an option of an informal post-bacc program or do they only offer a formal program? I was a chem major, and therefore many classes listed in formal programs I've already taken.

Also, for people who choose the informal route, how many credits/courses does the average pre-med post-baccer take in order to show and prove to medical schools that they are capable of doing well in heavy-science classes? Is there a minimum, maximum? Or does it depend on one's schedule and financial capabilities.

Im not sure if the have a informal post-bacc program, that you have to call and find out. I believe that its formal, but you organize your classes with some advice, its not terribly set in stone. I dont know the amount of credits, check the post bacc students at hunter (im still in UG) to my knowledge it is not set in stone. Financial wise, hunter is alot cheaper than the other post baccs. There is also linkage availible, but you have to be nominated, have over a 3.7 (or close to) and pray. Its not very formal, that i know.
