Hey guys,

I still have one more year of undegrad before I graduate, but I plan on doing a post bacc program after to take my pre med reqs (I have taken bio and chem, but did poorly in them 🙁 )

I was wondering if you could inform me on the schools that have linkages to medical school...a friend of mine says uconn has something like if you do extremely well in your post bacc (and i am assuming the mcat) you will be able to matriculate into their school of medicine. Is there any truth to this? If so, what other schools have this sort of system (I live in MA, so if there are any schools here that do the same thing, please let me know!!)

Thanks,

J

I think Tufts has some sort of "guaranteed interview" deal for high grading students in their postbac program. But I could be wrong.

On average 85% of UConn post-baccers go on to their med school. This isn't because of a linkage, but more like application insurance, as post-baccers are given special consideration by the adcom during application time. They still have to perform very well on the MCAT and in the program. The catch: only 12 or so of more than 300 applicants are accepted into the post-bac (by percentage this would be a touch more selective than their med school if my math and stats are correct).

Other programs with linkages on the east cost that I know offhand: Columbia and Bryn Mawr. Both are linked with a handful of med schools. As wonderful as these linkages sound, everyone in the program (at Columbia, this is 300 people) are competing for the few spots, because who in a postbac wouldn't want an assured place at a med school?

Bottom line on linkages: definitely a perk for a program, but only great luck will make the perk work for you.
