Hey all...I wasn't sure whether to put this post into the pharmacy board or the post-bacc board, so I did both...Did anyone, or is anyone in the process of, going through a post-bacc program with the intention of attending pharmacy school afterward?

hey,

I am currently applying to pharmacy school and I did all my sciences post-bacc. I actually went into post-bac not really sure what I wanted to do. I originally thought PhD or medicine. But now I am leaning towards pharmacy. Anyway, I did mine at a state school and actually ended up getting a 2nd degree because it only meant staying one extra semester. Now I am glad I got the degree becvause it made getting my pharmacy tech license much easier. My opinion is just to do the classes however it is the easiest for you, get good grades, and try to get some volunteer or work experience in a health care setting if you have yet to do so. I don't think it is necessary to pay tons of money to go to a structured "pre-health" post-bac program at a private school. Though if you want to, I know people who have had good experiences. The only thing I wish I had done differently was done more research in the prereqs for all the schools. Make sure you take Speech and Economics if you haven't done so. I did not fo those in my post-bac cuz I wasn't planning for pharmacy and now I have to fit them in during this next year. Also, make sure you take Microbiology and Molecular Biology if the schools you want to apply to require them. If you want to talk about this more feel free to post or PM me. Good luck 🙂

I hate speech!!!🙄 started class on Tuesday. I better get into Midwestern or I'll be really mad!!! I don't want to be doing this for nothing. Tomorrow I have to talk about myself for ten minutes. Talk about a waste of time. Not to mention other stupid assignments. I wish they would waive that requirement for people that already have a BS. I've defended an honors senior thesis for crying out loud. I think I know how to communicate!

I needed three classes beyond my BS in microbiology: A&P II without lab (for midwestern), speech (for most schools), and an english literature course (for UT Austin). I had to say that I was going for a second degree or I wouldn't have been able to re-enroll, so I picked psychology because that's the only major that didn't require advising, and they'd be wondering what these classes have to do with psychology. But I'm only taking these three classes and I'm outta there!! 😛

The only good thing is that since I work at the university here, I'm allowed to take a 3 hours course during working hours without having to make up the time, and they pay for half the costs.

I think we're better off applying with a bachelor's degree. If you don't have your BS yet, heed azpremed's warnings and research the prereqs for the schools you want to attend. You don't want to have to go back after you're already done. I kind of feel like an outsider now. (Like I'm so old huh, 25?😀 ). I catch myself checking out a hot guy and then panicking, like "Oh s@!*, he can't be older than nineteen! When I was a senior in high school, he was in sixth grade! I'm going to jail!" . But it will all be worth it in the end. (I hope).

Karmapatrol, which part are you talking about--completing your prereqs or going out with a sixth grader? (I feel like being a wise-ass tonight. 😀

😕 Huh? which part am I talking about....I'm lost.

I meant that I feel really old going back to take freshman classes now when I'm 25. I feel like a child molester when I think anyone under 22 is hot. I didn't really go out with a sixth grader. I was just thinking in terms of that if I was trying to hook up with someone six years younger than me and it was back in high school, it'd be really creepy...and I'd go to jail..

Oh, I get it now!!! Sorry, it took a minute to click. 😀 I meant completing the prereqs will all be worth it in the end. I don't think going out with a nineteen year old would be worth it. No offense to anyone under 22, I'm just an old lady.
