undefinedI have a question about loans. I have applied for a Post Bacc come this Fall and want to go to school full time. Has anyone been in the situation where they need to take out more loans (for Post Bacc) just for living expenses? If so, how did you do it? I live at home and so, I dont have that many expenses, but I recently leased a new car (before I made my pre-med plunge) and now have car and insurance payments.

Any advice? 😕

Jules,

You can always take out a private loan. However, some schools need extra documentation just to get the "ok" to increase your (private) loan limit. Every school has an Estimated Cost of Attendance--most of the estimates don't take into account spouses, outstanding debts, etc.--so it may take a little extra leg work to get your loan beyond the ECA.

I provided some extra documentation as to why I was requesting the amount I requested. The FinAid office worked to get the amount approved and they did.

Good luck,

drumming 😀

I got a private loan ($8000) and had no problem getting it from my bank.

Keep in mind that if you're looking for federal financial aid, it's required that the post-bac is degree or certificate granting. Some post-bacs which are run somewhat informally out of Chemistry or Biology departments are not degree or cert granting and you would not be eligible for any loans other than private.
