Post Bac's for Canadians??

Hi i know most of you are americans, but i am hoping someone can help me ...
I'm graduating from my four year hons science and I highly doubt i will be entering med school this coming year. My plans for next year were going to include working and travelling. But I don't see how this will enhance my application.
I have just heard about the premedical post bac programs that are offered in the states. So now my question is if anyone knows of such post bac program in Canada?
I have been trying to do research, but i have yet to find info...(and i have been at it for just today)

I know there are a couple of Canadians in my postbac class at Finch University, Chicago Medical School. The program is called Applied Physiology.

Are you taking a postbacc to do science requirements you have not done before or to improve your science GPA? These are usually the 2 reasons people do a postbacc, formally or informally. It sounds from your hons. in science that you may have all the science courses you need. Travelling or doing something unique in your year off could make your application that much more interesting.

I am bumping this thread because I am also in the same boat as docmira. I'll be finishing off a 4-years honours BSc in bio, and I haven't recieved any interviews as of yet. I applied for a Master's program (just in case), but I really don't know much about this post-bacc thing (as I haven't come across anything like this in Canada). The main reason that I would need to go this route is to boost the GPA (sitting at a 3.1). Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. 😀

I'm a Canadian myself and I know that there aren't really any post-bac "programs" in most Canadian universities that I know. Hope this helps.

You're right about the pos-bacs, they don't have those here. Not the pre-med types with linkages anyway, that allow you to complete pre-reqs. As for a master's, If your master's isn't thesis-based, then Canadian med schools will not give it special consideration. It'll just be included as part of your undergrad gpa.

I had this very same question a few months ago. I think the only way to do this is go to an American college, however a lot of them don't accept foreign students (just like the med schools).

Because Canadian schools have very strict cutoffs (and my undergrad GPA is only 3.3), I'm wondering if anyone knows of American schools that look strongly at grad GPA and/or MCAT scores. I've been told that it's hard for foreign students to get into American schools though. Is this also true for DO schools?

Also, if I do a post-bacc informally (I had about 1/2 of the courses done at my undergrad), do they count those marks with my undergrad GPA?

Congrats Clin_Epi on your success! 😀 Looks like your Masters thing helped you (among other things), except for being Polish (that I'm comfused about)...
