Hello, I recently graduated from Charles Univ, Prague and I'm a EU citizen and I was wondering how is the system in Ireland. After applying to the Irish Medical Council what one has to do to secure a job in Ireland? Do you enter directly to specialization without any internship year before? Thanks in advance!

No, you do an intern year, 6 months medicine and 6 months surgery, not necessarily in that order. Then in Medicine you do 2 SHO years, during which you are expected to get as broad an experience of medicine as possible. Then once you are a registrar you can apply to SPR courses to specialise. Hope this is clear.
For surgery, I assume a similar process applies after the Intern year but can't be certain as I am Canadian and had my reg explain this to me this week so I finally knew how the system worked ( I had some clue about it before, just wanted to be really clear about the whole thing, as it seems to take an ungodly amount of time to get anywhere). Cheers,
M

Thanks for the fast reply. I was looking in the Irish Medical Council site, and the applicants eligible for full registration will miss this internship and go directly to SHO. The problem is that there is very few info about Ireland, except this IMC site, there is no website that can guide you through and make u understand how things go on out there. Next week I'm heading there, so hope to get as much info as I can. Cya!

Thanks for the website, it's very helpful!!
