After sending thank you emails and expressing interest in a program, are any of you receiving any type of positive feedback?

I either receive..

A. Nothing back
B. "Thanks for interviewing, good luck on match day"

This is obviously a bit disheartening. I'm just wondering if many people match at places in which they received the above types of responses.

Most places will do the above. When it gets close to match day, you may hear from some places if you are an exceptional applicant.

When you send the "ranking #1" email, do not expect a response.

Prelim Interview... "I hope you match here." Everywhere else usually nothing.

I've sent mostly handwritten notes, but of the few emails I've sent I've gotten positive but generic feedback like "you are a great applicant, I would be happy to see you match here". At one interview I compared responses with another applicant and one program sent us word for word the same response. So I would be cautious about any feedback, as even great feedback is meaningless if they are saying it to everyone.

I sent a letter of intent to my number one with zero response. And I'm now happily post call today in my 2nd year at my number one. Don't take it personally, it doesn't mean anything if you hear nothing. It also doesn't mean anything if you hear back about how great you are (I've heard stories of people being told "ranked to match" at their number one and not matched there). My advice: send the thank yous, send the letter of intent if you want, but don't pay any attention to what programs tell you or don't tell you after that. Just wait patiently for the match

@bjb305, when would you say is a good time to send that letter of intent to your #1? Thanks!

I sent a letter I think first week in feb.. basically when interviews were done or nearly done.. I figured that way they knew I thought about all of the interviews I went thru instead of just sending it now when I still had several interviews to go... plus I think most programs make their rank list around early feb too.. once again these are my own 2 cents, i'm not sure how correct they are but it worked for me
