Hey guys!

I was wondering what everyone's opinions are regarding the sending of post-interview emails to thank the specific interviewer for their time, etc. Has anyone done this? What can you include in your email to not make it sound too over the top/aggressive/desperate?

I am planning on doing this for my top choice school, and am also planning on mentioning how I hope that they see the program as fitting for me as I see the fit for myself. I am also planning on including specific instances from the interview. Is there anything I should NOT write in the email? I plan on making it about a paragraph long, thanking the interviewer for the time but also expressing my profound interest in their program after spending the day there, how much I enjoyed meeting with them, and something about how I am excited to hear from them (maybe?) or maybe something about research that I hope I will get the chance to get involved with?

Please let me know what your experiences with this is, and if it has shown to hinder admission decisions at all! Thanks so much everyone!! 🙂

I personally emailed my interviewer and got in so take that how you want. One thing that I thought was really useful was to included specifics from the interview to help jog their memory, because with all the others they interviewed it helps to do whatever you can to make yourself stand out and not just another email. I don't see anything wrong with doing it, and I don't think that it can hurt your chances so I say go for it!

Post interview emails are just a professional courtesy and should be done after any interview, in my honest opinion. Make sure to address them by their professional title and make sure you do mention specifics from the interview (one thing that really stood out or you enjoyed talking about) as it will help you stand out! Also, I was taught to always send one within 24 hours, but peoples opinions varies on that.

For my email I simply thanked them for the opportunity, stated what I enjoyed about the experience, and said to have a wonderful week. I also referenced a conversation I had with one of the interviewers that was enjoyable. Just make it short, concise, and professional and you should be fine! I was accepted so it must have been alright.
