I was wondering how well post interview feelings correlate with final decisions (based on people's personal experience).

I have had two interviews so far:
School A: Thought the first interview went pretty well, and thought the second went amazing.

School B: Thought both of my interviewers were extremely tough, and was thrown off by a couple of questions. Maintained a steady mind, and was able to provide pretty decent answers. However, I didn't feel too great coming out, almost as if the interviewers were intentionally trying to attack/stress/be harsh.

Am I overthinking it? I should mention that my post MCAT feelings were that I did pretty bad, but I ended up with a 36+

Does anyone have any experiences to share?

2 out of my 3 acceptances resulted from interviews that I thought went horribly. I received exceedingly positive feedback from all my interviewers at another school, but ended up on a waitlist that no one ever gets off.

Your feelings really have no correlation with the decision. The interview is but one small part of the process, and unless you bombed it, it's really not a make or break kind of thing.

That is really reassuring to hear! I hope it goes similarly for me, lol.

Interviewed at 8 med schools, probably about 25 residency programs, and 4 fellowship places. I noticed somewhat of a correlation, the correlation went up as I got further along. I had pretty good interviews at the med school where I ended up attending, felt good about interviews at my residency programs, and had really great interviews at my future fellowship program (just got the right feeling about it, got a call offering me a position, accepted it).

I didn't have bad interviews at any of those places, but I also had great interviews at places that didn't take me.

I find it's different for exams...left MCAT and Step I feeling bad and got 37 and around 250 on them.

School A: I'd be shocked if I got in only because of the MMI format. I have no idea what they look for and I didn't think my individualistic answers worked well with their community oriented goals.

School B: I had a solid interview. I felt good throughout the entire day, but I can't say that I have any handle on how I really did. That poopdog is looking really good right about now because School B is my #1 choice!

Congrats on all of the successes!

I hope my feeling correlates well with my 'good one,' but doesn't with my 'bad one.' Lol..

I'n the bad one I definitely felt like I bombed a couple of questions, but had it super conversational at the end. Heres to hoping that being conversational/developing a connection will help! Thanks for the response!

Great, now I feel like **** because I felt good after my interviews but apparently that doesn't mean a thing...

Lol. Just wait man. Even if you did well, it's only part of the process. I'm sure things will work themselves out 🙂

That moment you come into a thread into interviews to brag about your standardized test scores.

Actually I added that on as an edit after my original post. I studied very hard to earn those scores and I'm proud of them.

The original poster mentioned an MCAT of 36+ which is why I went back and mentioned my experience.

The OP made an interview thread to brag about their MCAT score too.

🤣

Well, thats a concerning aspect of this whole process lol. Spent all this to haul myself out there and its not even that big of a deal. Probably just goes to show the school you're really interested in them.

There is probably alot of pre-qualification the further you get up the food chain. Medical school -> residency -> fellowship have fewer and fewer spots so just getting into the interview room is probably a very good sign I would imagine.

Right...
