post m1 summer question

What do med students usually do during the summer between m1 and m2?

I know that there are research programs to which i can apply to. But, honestly, i do not know if research is the career i want. I think that i probably want to just have a practice and/or follow the education aspect of medicine.

I don't think that doing research will really help me then. I wouldn't want to just sit at home. I would also like to find a program where i would get paid.

I will be traveling in Colombia for about a month this summer to visit some family, and honestly, i don't feel bad at all. I worked damn hard this past year to do well, and its good to take a non-academic break during the last summer vacation of my life.
