Anyone know if it is possible to match in MS-IV and then take a year out before starting residency? Is this something that is program specific, or do all/none allow a year deferral?

Just curious.

I just read this in the NRMP email the other day. It said that the program has to agree to deffering you a year...and that RARELY happens. If you enter the contract you better be ready and willing to go or have some lawyers handy

I second that.

If you want to take a year off after you graduate, then you'll have to apply for a residency during that year.

Once you match, the tomb is sealed, and you're contractually bound to start on July 1.
