post match vacancy--ophtho
Started by flying colors
Does anyone know what are the chances of getting a post match position? And whether the SF Match post match distribution form is helpful or know of any other ways you went about scrambling for post match spots?
Thank you very much.

I don't know much about it but on the interview trail I met a kid who filled a spot at a program that had opened up because they enlarged the program. I would call your residency director at your own program. Maybe they have the inside scoop about programs and you can make contacts before it becomes public to everyone.
Indiana just posted a 2010 spot on sfmatch.
Does anyone have any idea about the timeframe in which Indiana is likely to make a choice?

honestly, hard to say for a particular program...but I know a person who got one of the empty spots last year and it was done first-come-first-serve based on good applicants...i.e. as soon as they had someone they liked, they called him to make sure they liked him then gave him the spot
good luck

looks like the vacancy is filled? it's not on sfmatch website anymore.

No. They accepted approximately 100 apps before closing it so they were not inundated with more.
As far as I know, they are now reviewing all the applications.
If anyone hears anything, please post.
Currently, we're interviewing applicants for this spot. Decision has not been made yet.
It never happened before that IU is left with an empty spot.
I suspect applicants were a little concerned about the new chairman thing and whether big changes will be implemented in the program. The chairman is one of the IU faculty so no major changes are expected, at least in the near future.
The other issue is we don't invite enough people for the 6 spots that we have.
Good luck everyone.

Thanks for the news.
Does that mean that all interview offers have been made?
I heard they are inviting this week.
Stanford has a PGY2 spot to start in July 2009. Just posted yesterday on SF website. Good luck to those who are applying.

I got through to the coordinator this morning, and she says she's having a hard time reaching the PD because he was at a conference last week and was in surgery all day yesterday, but she's trying to contact him and "will be contacting" us when she knows more.
IU sent out rejection emails this Thursday. I guess you need very thick skin to get through this process.

Flying colors -- It sounds like you got one of those rejection emails, sorry to hear it. 🙁
Does anyone know if they've officially filled the spot?
I have received neither an interview invite nor a rejection and the suspense is killing me...
