My primary care buddies tell me that counseling for post-op depression is something they do a lot of, not just specifically for my cases (pheww!) but for all surgeons. Even when the procedure goes well and everything appears perfect from a surgical standpoint, patients still can undergo feelings of remorse. I don't recall ever hearing about this issue during school or Residency and I don't know if anyone covers it nowadays, but it seems like something we should be aware of and prepared to deal with.
