what are you guys doing for the post-secondary experience descriptions on AMCAS? Do they want just a factual description of what you did or more of an anecdotal or "how it influenced me" type thing. Also, 510 characters seems like a lot for some of my ECs. Do you think it would be appropriate to just have a sentence or two for some of them and more for research, etc? or would it be better to use all the allotted space?

Thanks - you guys are awesome

Hey I dude I am having the same problem. I guess it is ok if it less than 510 characters.

I have been doing both, giving a factual description as well as how it influenced me. Obviously with the minimal space this isn't too in depth, but I'm trying to cover both. However, I doubt there is a "right way."

Also, my responses are of different lengths. Some almost take up the entire 510 spaces, whereas others are relatively short.

What about everyone else?

I'm just detailing the factual information...I figure the 'how it influenced me' can go in the PS, secondaries, or be brought up in the interview.

As others have said, some of my responses are just a response or two, whereas others approach the 510-character limit.

I'm torn between writing something slightly interesting or just giving them the facts. sigh, how can EC's be so much trouble?

I would say that if you have something interesting to say about a particular EC, definitely say it. I put in lots of "I learned," or "the most difficult/enjoyable/interesting part of this experience was" was statements in mine, even though they were short.

Remember, the name of the game for your application is to stand out, be interesting, unforgettably good, if you will. If you did the same research/shadowing/etc. as the rest of us that's fine, but it's probably worth putting in some effort to make it sound particularly cool.
