Hi, I am a graduate-to-be next year and was wondering if I can work in the USA after clearing USMLE Step 1, even if its a small job.

This just popped in my head, I've heard and read of people working (not residency, as a general physician) but that has been after clearing Step 2 atleast. So, if I could get some information on this, I'd appreciate it

I know that if you complete the first year of residency (aka: intern year), you can work as a GP. You're not board certified in anything and it severely limits you, but it's available. Also, there are a few states (Kansas, I think was one?!) that allows physicians who graduated and have passed step 1 and 2 but not completed a residency or intern year to practice as a GP in underserved regions, but it's highly regulated and restricted. All in all.......going this route is NOT the best for either you or your patients. It's mainly for those who didn't match or cannot complete a residency for another reason (too much time from graduation, IMGs, etc)
