Hello everyone, I'm seeking your opinion on a question concerning my fiance who's interested in applying to med school.

He has a bachelor's and a PhD (no masters) in an engineering discipline from a British university. Thus he has no college GPA. He took the equivalent pre-med level biology, chemistry, physics, calculus, etc at the end of 'high school.'

If applying for med school in the US with such a background, would you go for a postbac program or for a masters program?

If he gets his transcripts evaluated by one of the agencies that does this for folks with international education he can get a "GPA". If he has done all his pre-reqs and has and made good grades, the post-bacc or masters may not be needed.

Mix in a good MCAT score and a Green card and PRESTO!

Contact the AMCAS and see what service they recommend.

Good point.

He says his original grades for those subjects weren't that great to begin with. So what would you do then?

Thanks so much for your input.

I'll send him here to peek at SDN.... right now, I think we're all too scary and he'd be way overwhelmed, so I'll wait a few months on that until he's more ready! 🙂
