Postbacc pre-pharmacy students?

Most of the posts in postbaccalaureate forums seem to be primarily centered around topics pertaining to medical school. I am wondering if there is anyone who has experience as a pre-pharmacy student with any of the postbacc programs out there. Or do most people who decide to persue a career in pharmacy after obtaining a bachelor's degree in a non-science related field simply take prerequisite courses at a local university...and not through a formal postbacc program?

i ended up just doing pre reqs at a community college. a post bac would have hurt me more financially and it was still acceptable to do the classes at a CC whereas for med schools (where the competition is majorly stiff) there is a need to constantly compete in every aspect of your application..classes, school, activities, etc.
as post bac would be nice.. it is not always in one's power to do so cuz of the finance. In the future where pharmacy school may be as competitive as med school, post bac may be a better option.

I'm a post-bac planning on going into pharmacy. Got my BS in physics, spent a year as a grad student, and found I was not a fan of research.

Now I'm just working as a tech and taking the bio/chem classes I need to apply to pharmacy school. I'm taking them at the same university my initial degree is from (parents are willing to pay 🙂).

It's fairly depressing being back in freshman level classes when 6 months ago I was TEACHING freshman classes, but oh well. I think I've finally found something I really want to do, and at that point you just have to go for it regardless of the obstacles.

I'd like to hear more about that if you don't mind, sounds interesting (with regard to taking 1st and 2nd year courses). Do you find you're well above the class?

I had a business degree when I decided to do pharmacy so instead of taking a year to do my pre-requisites, I did a one year Master's. I think that looks better than a certificate and it is realatively the same amount of money. Hope that helps...

I'm in Chemistry I, which I haven't taken since high school (7 years ago), so as far as the specific material is concerned I'm about equal with everyone else. However, with my educational background I'm just more experienced at learning than kids straight out of high school, so it's pretty easy for me. The worst is the group labs. I generally just write the entire report for my group. Having authored publications in refereed journals, it's not too hard for me, and they sure don't mind having less work.

I just wish I'd figured out this career thing about 5 years ago!

I feel your pain. For some people it's hard to know what you want to do when you start off your college life. I've been in school forever. I have two degrees, a certification, and have been working for a while now. It took me chipping away at things I didn't want my job to be until all I'm left with is something I liked. It turns out for me that's pharmacy. Now, going back to a CC this spring and taking some freshman level classes to finish out my prereqs. LOL. I was in clinical biochem VI 8 months ago. Oh well. Live and learn. I saw a bumber sticker that made me feel better about it the other day: "The truly educated never graduate".

Delph80, what kind of Master's program did you do? That sounds interesting, but I was under the impression that you had to have a science background to do the one year Master's programs. Did you have other background besides business?

I did have some basic sciences in my undergrad years. I did the Master's in Biology but I tailored it to pharmacy so ended up taking and doing research on chemistry even though the degree is biology. I did it at Chatham College in Pittsburgh if you want to get ideas...www.chatham.edu....
