I just graduated with my bachelors and was wondering if it would be looked down upon to retake a few classes from a CC for grade replacement for 1 semester this spring until I can find a better option at a 4 year school? I'd prefer to continue schooling, but I haven't applied to any programs as of now and a CC seems like my only option to stay in school for the spring.

How is your GPA without grade replacement? Have you taken the MCAT yet?

3.0 cGPA and 2.7 sGPA. I think with grade replacement it's more like a 2.9 sGPA and 3.1 cGPA. My MCAT score is 518.

Not at all!

Honestly, take 4 classes this semester to replace ur <C's and see what that will do w ur GPA and then you could still apply this cycle otherwise take this semester and summer or fall semester retaking a bunch of classes and apply 2017 cycle. Ur MCAT is killer!

Thanks. I'm thinking of applying for the 2017 cycle. I think I can get my cGPA and sGPA above a 3.3 after about 1.5 years of postbacc. Coupled with my MCAT, I'm hoping this will make me a competitive applicant.

You don't need an official post-bacc and drop thousands. Just retake a years worth of classes next semester and fall semester and you'll be golden provided you have DO LoR and good EC's.

Yeah I agree. I'm just not sure whether I should just retake courses during Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 or try an SMP. I'm not sure which would be more beneficial for me in my current situation.

I think it depends on what it is you want. With that high of an MCAT it becomes whether or not you want to pursue an MD. A couple retakes and you would be a great DO applicant. With that MCAT success in an SMP could open some doors at some MD schools that reward reinvention examples like Duke, Case, and VCU. But know that it is imperative to do well in the SMP because if you do poorly you will be sunk. Basically, if you just want to be a doctor than do retakes as that will be the easier and faster route. If you want to go for the MD then think about a solid SMP program.

Forget the SMP - work smarter, not harder

Take this semester to take as many retakes as possible, get s/cGPA above 3.0 and w ur MCAT, you will get in somewhere this coming cycle, provided you have solid EC's and DO LoR

Thanks. Would an MD LOR be ok for DO schools?

It'll do but a DO letter would be twice as good. Also some schools require DO letter, so do not apply to those that do.
