Does anyone know anything about or have any experience with the postbacc programs at any of the following schools?

Northwestern (School of Continuing Studies)

UC Berkeley (Extension)

Mills College

U of Maryland (Science in the Evening)

There seems to be little or no mention of them on these threads...or perhaps I'm just not looking in the right place.

Thanks...

Search around - I know I've seen UC-B before (and I believe it was something good) and may have heard of UM - the rest, don't know.

Northwestern - Good school, people who have been there have nothing but positives about it. The downer for me is that the school is on the quarter system. There are a few threads about it, just PM the people who posted there.

UCBerk - The Extension program has been around for quite a while, but their formal postbacc program is very new. That's why there's not a lot of info about it here.

Maryland - What's cool about this program is that everyone pays in-state tuition, regardless of state residency. That's all I know about it.

I'm probably going to be doing UMD's science in the evening program. Like said above: you pay in-state tuition which is HUGE.

I'm starting Northwestern's program..but the quarter system is an upside for me. Heard nothing but good things about it. If you contact them they will send you more info.

Alkail are u starting in winter 2007?

What are the +/-'s of the quarter system?

Yes, I am starting in the winter 2007.

The upside of the quarter system for me is that you cover the material from January to March, March to June, etc in increments of less than three months, with one week off in between. I like this system because you can get into a rhytm at school (this is how I did m undergrad in quarters) and you get to take finals after three months of info as opposed to five months of info so there is less to cram at one time. Other people like the semester system where there is 5 months and then a three weeks off, but it doesn't work for me because I get too restless/bored with the same routine for too long.

Alkail -- what courses are you taking for winter 2007?

i did my post bacc at mills. got into allopathic medical school of my choice. mills is great--tough program, but lots of support. science classes are nice and small, but rigorous. they only admit people they think will get into med school, which is why they have such a high acceptance rate. it's pricey, but worth it because you'll probably get into med school.
