Does anyone prefer the U/S guided Ilioinguinal nerve block over a posterior TAP block via U/S for an Open Inguinal Hernia Repair?

Is the Ilioinguinal Block superior for post op pain relief?

My understanding is - Ilioinguinal can be considered a variant of TAP. Its like doing a peripheral block instead of an central neuraxial block.

I think the TAP block covers the Ilioinguinal nerve. Downside is you use more local. Upside is that it's easier to do. I have never done an Ilioinguinal or looked for them during a TAP. The pictures that I've seen haven't convinced me that it is easy. Blade are you doing both?

Looks like pain in the day stay unit was higher after TAP. Did it wear off sooner? Maybe a direct Ilioinguinal block is like doing a femoral block, and a TAP is like a FICB, in terms of duration. I wonder if the surgeon put it local. Maybe (s)he put more local when the anesthesiologist took longer with his (Ilioinguinal) block.
