i was wondering if anyone knows about any good opportunities for postgraduate research in case i don't get in on this time around. i've found tons of opportunities for undergraduate research but few for people in my situation which is as follows:

swm, graduated from college in May, approx. 6 months reseach experience (currently not getting paid for this), interviewed and waiting (avg. stats), east coast (nc)

any help is much appreciated

Assuming that your degree was in a basic science area, your best bet for a research job is to apply to jobs advertising for technicians (research technicians, laboratory technicians). The majority of people that take these jobs are in your position, applying and want to earn some money and gain some experience in the meantime. Try contacting the HR departments of you local academic institutions and private research companies. My only concern is that you are applying for the 2005 entering class which only leaves you with about 6 months of time that you can work. Most places will want a longer commitment. Best of luck.

I know a lot of people who spent time doing research after college and before med school. The best way to find a position is through any connections you may have. So if you are close to any academic docs near you, or via people you know from college. Just start asking around if anybody knows of a lab that would be interested in taking you on for a year or so. One of my friends got a really cool clinical research job this way, and she spends the whole day doing tests on patients. (actually she got it because her father is a doctor and asked around for her)

thanks for the input
