it says on usmleworld that for postterm pregnancy, there are 2 ways of management: 1) induction if cervix is favorable 2) weekly monitoring with US to evaluate for oligohydamnios.

My question is, why can't you just go ahead and go a C-section on a women who is postterm?

I think because there are risks always associated with a C-section like future abnormal implantation, uterine rupture and general surgical risks. If there is no fetal distress and the mom is ok, a spontaneous delivery seems more appropriate.

There's no indication for a c section. You do a c section for maternal and fetal indications. A non favorable cervix isn't generally a reason for a section in a normal pregnancy.
