Hello all,

I realized last night that I may have a potential problem with my letter of recommendations.

To make a long story short I started college off in 2012 as a premed science student where I completed most of my prerequisites. I then switched my major/focus to music performance in 2014 and forgot about the whole medical school thing. After graduating in 2017, I did a lot of self reflection and decided that I wanted to go to medical school.

I have finished everything I need to do and I'm getting ready to apply this summer. I was going to have 2 physicians I scribed for, a biochemistry professor and a history professor write LORs for me. Last night I realized that many schools require two letters of recommendation from science professors though. With the exception of a physics class and a biochemistry class I took last spring it has been 7-8 years since I last took a science class. This leaves me in an interesting spot since I highly doubt my science professors from 8 years ago remember me.

I'm wondering what I should do now. I emailed the physics professor and I'm waiting to hear back. I didn't know him that well but I did pretty well in his class and I feel a little stuck. If that doesn't work out I think I have a few options.

1) email professors from 7-8 years ago. "hey I took your class awhile ago here's my situation pleaseeeeee help"

2) take physics 1 sooner than I intended (my final prerequisite) and hope to get a letter there. The closest school offering this is 2 hours from me. I'd have to drive 4 hours each week for lab and not go to lectures to make this work. It would be doable if attendance wasn't mandatory.

3) hope schools have different LOR requirements for non traditional students? I'm not sure if this is the case though.

Any help would be appreciated

1) You need physics to take MCAT anyway; it would seem you would be able to get the letter
2) many schools offer alternative recommendations for nontrads, usually supervisor for employment

1) I took the MCAT last September so I'm all set there. I emailed my physics 2 professor last night and I'm waiting to hear back. I wouldn't be shocked if he said no since he didn't really know me.

2) is there an easy way to figure this out short of emailing them all? I was hoping two letters from physicians I worked for, a biochem and a history letter would suffice

I would email all of them. Even if you get a mediocre letter it will still fulfill requirement. You dont wont to be screened out for lack of a letter

I currently have a list of 38 potential schools (I'm going to whittle this down). I went through each website and only 5 of them said 2 science letters. I emailed one of the schools and they said they have waivers and they would be flexible with that requirement so that's nice. I have to check on the rest.
