Hi,
I've been a longtime lurker, but I'm finally making a thread to gather some outside opinions about my dilemma. I'm considering applying out of a BA/MD program to other medical schools.
I'm a junior this year and plan to enter the cycle this summer should I decide to apply out.
Some background info (want to keep it sketchy to be anonymous but I can provide more detail):
I am a science/humanities double major with a current 3.9- GPA/40S MCAT and several meaningful, long-term ECs in volunteering, teaching, research as well as artistic endeavors.
The thing is, I'd be happy continuing to be a student at the BA/MD medical school when I graduate. Except...I would love it if I could return to California (less travelling, less tuition costs, better lifestyle, better residency match chances for the specialties I'm interested in perhaps?) or go a medical school in a different, more urban area. I think I may have a good chance if I apply out, but I'm scared because California is competitive, especially for an Asian student, and up to a certain point, the process turns into a crapshoot.
Bottom Line: Am I crazy for wanting to do all of this? ...and how many schools should I apply to (I was thinking of keeping my list around 9-10...lol) ?
Thanks!
