Hi all, I apologize for the really strange question and if this was the wrong spot to post it in. However, I just wanted to check with med students and see the availability of power outlets in classrooms. I'm mainly asking this question because I'm buying a new computer soon and I think it can probably only get 3 hours max on battery with powersaver mode. I'm not sure how long classes last for, so yeah just looking for some help here. In undergrad, there's like no power outlets in my classes so wanted to see if med school classrooms are a bit more high end. Thanks for your time!

We didn't have many power outlets in our lecture hall. You'd have to sit along the sides and rope your power cord over the side steps for an outlet.

Bigger question - Why are you buying a new computer that is going to get < 3 hours of battery life, especially on power saver? That's a terrible starting point for a new laptop.

You will get more useful information if you post this in the school-specific thread over in pre-allo. The number of outlets you can expect to have in a classroom really depends on your particular school's facilities.

What in the world new laptop are you getting that only gets three hours of battery life while in a power-saving mode?? Seriously. Don't waste your money on something with such poor life. Heck, Apple just announced new MacBook Airs with twelve hours of battery life. Twelve.

As others have said, this is highly school-specific. Some schools have gorgeous, brand new, fancy lecture halls with power and ethernet everywhere. Others are old and falling apart and barely have a few outlets along the side walls. And school prestige does not correlate positively or negatively with lecture hall features.

Yup, this is very school-specific. But as others have said, you should absolutely make long battery life a major criterion for your laptop purchase.

don't do it man, it's gonna be a liability, trust me.

My laptop only gets 2 hrs of battery life. Cheapo laptops. never again

Especially if your school doesn't have an adequate number of outlets. Mine has one or two at every cubicle in the library, but the M1 auditorium has only a few along the walls. I believe the M2 auditorium has one or two in between each seat. Needless to say, I'll be bringing my laptop a lot more next year.

...this is not standardized. If it's the deciding factor for which laptop you buy then ask a student at your future school.
